We are not a normal CSA!

Updated: Jul 12

We are different on purpose, but because of that, we get a lot of questions about how the Full Farm CSA works. Here are the answers you may be looking for.

"What does CSA stand for?"

Good question! CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. It was started in the 1980s in the USA and was influenced by movements in Europe and Japan. You can read more about it here.

"What do I get in my Full Farm CSA box?"

You will only get items in your box that you put in there. We are fully customizable, which means you are required to go into our store and select the items you want to buy. Traditional CSAs will deliver you a box of the things they have harvested and that need to be eaten - it is a fun system because you discover how to cook and eat new produce you may not be familiar with, but it can also be overwhelming… “More kale?!?”  We will deliver you a box of only the things you want.

"What is the monthly charge about? Is that a fee?"

The monthly charge is not a fee! That charge is the money that you will be spending in the store during the following 30 days. Then we’ll charge you again and the process continues. We have no "fee" for membership. The reason we ask for payment ahead of time is so we can plan on having a certain level of on-going business. This “pay ahead” concept is the main definition of a CSA: a small business (a farm) can count on your purchases before they happen and therefore can confidently invest in improving their products.

"What if I don’t spend the balance before the end of the month?"

No problem! Your balance is your money so we allow any remaining amount to roll over in your account to be spent eventually. It is always your money. We do not, however, give refunds, so if you accumulate a large balance you’ll need to spend it down by skipping the loading charges in the account management menu of the store. (We also have a low-income program which accepts donations of unused balances.)

"What if I don’t load enough money and run out before the month is over?"

That is no problem: The software will automatically ask you to pay for the overage using a credit card. If this happens frequently, you might want to consider a higher membership level because it also comes with bonuses.

"What if I forget to place an order?"

If you miss the deadline to place your order we ask that you wait for the next shopping window. It is very difficult to accommodate late orders as the products we are selling are harvested specifically for you. Most of the items come from our farm but there are many that we order from other farms immediately after the order window closes. The other vendors then pack the items for us, we pick them up, we pack up your boxes and then we deliver to your door or drop site that day (freshness counts!). The margins for error are very slim and so we do not accommodate late orders.

"What if I don’t want to have a box this week?"

That’s easy: If you don’t place an order, you won’t get a delivery. This is just fine.

"Can I pause my subscription?"

As a CSA we count on consistent membership, so we do not have a pause feature. The best option is to skip a monthly payment if you need to.

"What if the membership in Full Farm CSA doesn't work for me?"

All members are enabled to cancel their membership by going into the account settings (upper right corner menu of store) to cancel at any time. We expect a 6 month commitment to your membership, but have no way to enforce this. Please do us the honor of letting us know why you are leaving so we can improve.

"Can I pay for my groceries with SNAP (federal) or DUFB (state) benefits?"

Yes! Thanks to the assistance of the Pacific Northwest CSA Coalition we are able to accept SNAP and DUFB benefits to pay for groceries. We cannot help with establishing those benefits, but if you already have them we can help you.
