You may recall our installation of guardian geese in one of our layer hen flocks. The geese are very territorial and protective of their flock, using their loud and large presence to give any predator a reason to look elsewhere. If you missed it, here's the blog post about adding guard geese.

The "guard geese" experiment has gone quite well according to all involved. The geese and chickens are healthy and thriving.

"The geese have been loud and aggressive against threats," said poultry manager Ikaika Johnson. "Our survival rate has been exremely high for this flock ever since the geese arrived."

Last week, that flock of layers was brought up to their winter location. The trailer, with the chickens inside, was pulled by a tractor, followed by Summer and Ruth carrying the two females, Mila, the farm dog, enjoying the excitement, and Gus, the gander, proudly bringing up the rear. With the slow pace of the procession, the whole project resembled a parade!
