The start of the day.
As you may know, animals rise with the sun. So do farmers. It could be considered the best and most difficult thing about the farming life.
This week a few of our new employees and students have been sharing sunrise photos, so I was inspired to collect them and share along with other favorites from the past few years. Please enjoy some of the photos that even we, who see the start of every new day, couldn't resist taking.
Some are taken with cheap cell phones and cold fingers, and others by professional photographers like Shawn Linehan. Some while moving or feeding animals, some while picking up food we'll be packing and delivering to customers later that same day. And it's often a photo with dairy cows, since they are the first animals we engage with each morning.
In this era of racing around and staring at screens, it is lovely to be forced by farming to engage with the natural world and its rhythms. Thank you for being a part of this by buying your food from local, small and medium scale agriculture businesses like our and our partners.
