For the producers of hyper-local, sustainably-raised food, community is very important. Every producer in this field is in it for the meaning and passion, and we try to support one another against the corporate agriculture industry we compete with.

One of the leaders in Oregon for this farming community is Pacific NW CSA Coalition.

We rely on PNWCSA to help us find new customers through their website and annual Share Fair event in Portland. They also, crucially, help us interface with the government so we can accept SNAP funds.

They do so much more: education, community networking and resource consolidation. For instance, they also support new farmers starting out, including a former employee of Deck Family Farm, Braedon Kwiecien. When Braedon left our farm he started his own Wild Geese Farm in West Linn, and has benefited from workshops, advertising and SNAP benefits all through PNWCSA Coalition.

The Coalition needs support, too. We encourage you to learn more about them and consider contributing to their current fundraising campaign.

Picture this:

Imagine a world of abundance: fertile soil that’s alive with biodiversity, small farms thriving, and fresh, colorful food within reach of every family, every season. Where everyone can afford to eat healthy food, grown using sustainable practices, by farmers they know.

Local, abundant food is possible. But in today’s agroindustrial food system, it’s becoming harder and harder. Corporations are buying out family farms, and making decisions that are profitable, but detrimental to our health and the environment.

For the past thirty years, the Pacific NW CSA Coalition has been dedicated to expanding Community Supported Agriculture in our region. Our farms - there are close to 100 – use production methods that promote diverse ecosystems and yield nutrient-dense food. We connect people with these farms, and we help people pay with SNAP – because accessing healthy, local food should be a right, not a privilege.

Today, we are launching a fundraising campaign: Nourish families. Support farmers. Strengthen Communities. When people purchase a CSA share, they get nourishing, healthy food, and 100% of their money goes directly to their farmer – keeping that farmer in business.

With grocery prices increasing, SNAP cuts looming, and federal support for small farms disappearing, it’s more important than ever that we build a vibrant, local food system.

You can learn more about our impact and what we do on our website. (Better yet, help us avoid the processing fees and send a check to Pacific NW CSA Coalition, PO Box 83534, Portland, OR 97231.) As a nonprofit, your donation is tax-deductible.

It’s critical that we raise $10,000 before the end of the year to continue our work getting healthy food to the people who need it the most, keeping our farmers in business and keeping our community fed. Your donation of $50 helps us keep programs like Double Up Food Bucks running: where people who purchase their share with SNAP get 50% off.

Thank you for your continued support, and for considering a gift to the Pacific NW CSA Coalition.

With gratitude,

Holly Hutchason
