This summer were were joined by 21 year-old Genevieve Ortega from Savannah, Georgia.
Genevieve attended college for two years studying environmental science. While on campus she co-managed the campus farm which produces food for the dining facility and which, ironically, inspired her to leave college.
For the past 7 years she has been traveling around the world working on farms in Puerto Rico, New York, Thailand, Florida, and California.
"I have always felt a deep connection to the Earth and felt so empowered to know I can co-create with my surroundings to produce what is needed to, not only survive, but also provide for families or communities," she said. "It's really nice to see a visible difference that comes from putting in the work and maintaining a chunk of land."
Genevieve looks forward to learning humane animal processing methods, gaining market and sales experience, and feel more grounded in one location after so many years of travel.
"My goal is to absorb as much knowledge as possible so I can move forward with clarity on how I can create sustainable communities" in the future.
